About Taxco Silver Maker Fred Davis
Fred Davis was born in the United States in 1880. He moved to Mexico in 1910 to work in a family business and became enthralled with Mexican native folk art. Throughout his life in Mexico, Fred Davis traveled widely, creating relationships with many artists and craftspeople.
Over time, he worked with silver artisans to develop his jewelry designs. In some cases, he purchased pieces designed by other Mexican silver masters for his shop. Fred Davis had exceptionally high standards and drove his artisan partners to elevate their designs and quality. As a result, Fred Davis marked jewelry was exceptionally well made and continues to increase in value.
Fred Davis had a positive impact on the development of the craft industries in Mexico. He worked with the Mexican government to further the development of native arts and to increase recognition of fine Mexican artisans worldwide.
