Georg Jensen Bracelet 3 | Vintage Sterling Silver | Silver Cabochon Art Nouveau Denmark

This elegant art nouveau bracelet was designed and crafted by Georg Jensen. It features sterling silver cabochons set in a beautifully detailed foliate and floral design. Versions of this important piece can be seen on pages 176 and 177 of "Georg Jensen Jewelry" by Anscombe, Gelfer-Jorgensen, Greenbaum and Soro, Yale University Press, 2005, and pages 114 and 172-173 of "Georg Jensen, A Tradition of Splendid Silver," by Janet Drucker, Schiffer Publishing Ltd., 2001. An early concept, Georg Jensen designed this piece in 1905. This is a beautiful and highly collectible art nouveau bracelet.

This vintage Georg Jensen bracelet has the post-1944 mark, Georg Jensen's name, in an oval of indented dots. It is also marked 925S, indicating it is sterling silver, Denmark, and 3. The bracelet measures 7 1/2" long and 5/8" wide. It weighs 31.4 grams.

Georg Jensen is one of the world's most renowned silversmiths. Born in 1866 and later a graduate of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Georg established his workshop in 1904, having been a sculptor in his earlier years. Jensen's designs were unique for the time, as he did not follow current trends. Many of Georg Jensen's designs were inspired by his time spent as a child in the natural areas surrounding his home in Raadvad. Even today, Jensen's designs remain distinctive and highly recognizable. He rarely used precious stones, and often no stones were included in his designs. When George Jensen did include gems, they were often semi-precious, such as amber, green onyx, malachite, lapis, or coral.

In 1916, Jensen further formalized his business, becoming Georg Jensen's Silversmith. Georg Jensen continued to design exceptional pieces through the years while hiring many now-renowned silver jewelry designers who added to his laudable collection. These designers partnered with Georg Jensen to produce their works because of his exceptional skill in translating beautiful and artistic designs through silver into fine jewelry. This ability, coupled with the Georg Jensen smithy's outstanding workmanship, was a significant draw for top silver designers during this era.
