Continental Solidarity William Spratling Brooch in Sterling Silver

Designed in 1942, this mixed metal copper and sterling silver pin is part of William Spratling’s “Continental Solidarity” series, created to support unity in the Americas during World War II and raise funds for the Red Cross. The brooch depicts two joined hands—one in sterling silver and the other in copper—symbolizing cooperation and shared purpose. Crafted in Taxco between 1942 and 1946, it bears Spratling’s hallmark encircled by “Spratling” and “Made in Mexico,” as well as the “Spratling Silver” mark. Lightweight and visually striking, it stands as both a historical artifact and a remarkable mid-century jewelry design.
